Our history in brief
A standing set on a Hollywood sound stage, designed for McDonald's® television commercials by Don Ament, a decade ago, was the beginning of Setmakers, Inc.
We've come a long way since the first McDonaldland Playland® in 1971, at Chula Vista, California, featuring "Ronald McDonald® and his friends." Designed into children's playground equipment, these characters consisted of slides, swings, teeter-totters, ships and trains, all in an enclosed fantasyland of McDonald's very own!
In the years that followed, with Setmakers becoming a subsidiary of Miracle, the largest institutional playground equipment manufacturer in the United States, we have produced more than three thousand McDonaldland Playlands, Indoor Party Rooms, and Adult Interiors combined. McDonaldland Playlands alone are now being shipped on the average of five to eight per week.
Today, despite the startling increase in the number of units shipped, the same care and pride go into our product, with the parts of many items still being hand painted. Of equal importance, is the genuine enthusiasm with which all of us at Setmakers, Inc. look forward to the next decade and beyond.
Few worthwhile things are accomplished without enthusiasm. Which is not to say that makes it easier. The accomplishments of these past ten years have not come easily. However, they would not have been possible at all without the challenges and, of course, the "Opportunity" given to us by McDonald's® and the owner/operators to meet those challenges. For that, and for the patience shown through some times of trial and error, we are deeply appreciative. That's a collective "we"; from each one of us in Design, Production, Manufacturing and Sales. From the handful of dedicated people who began ten years ago working with our Founder, Don Ament, to the much larger though equally dedicated group at Setmakers today, I thank them, and "we" thank you for the chance to serve.
